President Barack Obama got a fairly good reception Thursday when he showed up in Las Vegas to repeat some of the highlights of his State of the Union speech.
Before the Clark County Commission voted to appoint Steve Wolfson as district attorney Tuesday, several angry constituents protested that the county was engaged in a "dog and pony show."
For years, Nevada's gambling and mining industries had a simple message about taxes: They wouldn't support new or increased taxes specific to their industries alone, but they would support a tax applied equally to all businesses.

I understand your frustration. I, myself, was prevented from posting a blog comment recently when writing as a “civilian,” by this very filter. I wasn’t allowed to post until I signed in.
However, before this filter was installed, this blog was slammed with commercial spam designed to appear like a legitimate comment. It wasn’t just one or two, either; scores of fake comments had to be deleted–one by one–by yours truly. I’m sure you’d rather me spend my time writing for the blog, for CityLife and for TV rather than sniping fake blog posts? In any event, that’s how I choose to spend my time.
However, perhaps there’s a way around this. I will look into it.
