E-mails discovered by the New York Times show John Ensign solicited a company that sought his assistance on energy issues to hire former aide Doug Hampton, with whose wife Ensign had an affair. The revelations tend to support Hampton’s allegation that Ensign assisted him in breaking a one-year lobbying ban for ex-Senate staffers.
