Welcome to Slash Politics!

It’s a new year, a new decade, and now, a new political blog. Welcome to Slash Politics.

I’ve been writing about Las Vegas and Nevada politics in one form or another since 1993, when I was hired at the Las Vegas Sun to cover the police beat. Since then, I’ve covered Las Vegas City Hall for the Sun, the entire town for CityLife, and the political scene exclusively for the Review-Journal for five years. Since 2005, I’ve been at the helm of CityLife. And, very shortly, I’ll become the newest member of the I-Team on KLAS Channel 8, covering politics with news and analysis on the evening newscast twice weekly.

I know how difficult it is to keep up with the fast-moving flow of political news. That’s why I created this site. It will feature political news from other publications, both national and local. It will feature political analysis in this new blog. It will have video stories updated from time to time, or a quick rundown of political news shot in the cinema verite style, which is to say a Flip video camera on my desk. (I never claimed to be James Cameron.)

If it’s about Nevada politics, I’ll work to see you find it right here, from breaking stories to in-depth analysis of politics, all with the goal of keeping you informed and, I hope, entertained.

This is not, by any measure, the final product. We’ll be making tweaks, improvements and adjustments as time goes on. And we’ll definitely be interested in hearing your suggestions and feedback.

So please bookmark this page, and come back often. For more immediate, breaking news, you can also follow me on Twitter and, soon, tune in to see updates on Channel 8.

Politics in Nevada is what naval aviators call a target-rich environment. That’s going to be especially true in 2010. Stay tuned to Slash Politics, so you won’t miss a thing.

Like the new site. Glad to see the change!

Can you write funny comments here? It seems like these folks that write take themselves very seriously. And it also seems as if they feel like everything they write is an article of the Federalist Papers, rather than the painfully obvious attempt at regurgitating the mediocre punditry available on a Google search.

Al Gore invented the internet so the truly perverted would have someplace to see “little people” make love to well endowed people of various ethnic origins. But it also can be used to give us a laugh or two and through the use of humor, maybe make a relevant social comment.

Anyhow, Steve Sebelius is not just another hot looking columnist/blogger/cigar enthusiast. He also has a sense of humor and I hope it comes out on this site!

  3. So, the long awaited and much anticipated New Thing is here. Very good.

If I didn’t know better, I’d say that you used your powers of evil genius – and the crystal ball you found in the dumpster out back – to deliberately time the Slash launch for the same week as your new I-Team gig.

Congrats on both, and I’ll be reading.

    Cheers!

    E!!

Steve you are such a multi-tasker I’m sure the companion blog Axel Rose Politics cannot be too far behind.

    Best of luck

It looks like your blog is off to a good start. I was really looking forward to it and so far it looks like you are not going to disappoint. Got you bookmarked and am heading over to twitter so that I can follow you there. Glad also to hear you will be doing the I-team gig with George Knapp, another great reporter.

    Hey Steve
    Congrats on your new blog.
While I’m not a Vegas resident or from Nev for that matter, I do enjoy reading your musings from time to time on CL (no, not the Craig’s List services section). And if I could get CH8 here, I’d watch you as well.
    Keep up the good work

  7. hey steve,
congratulations and give’em hell . . .looking forward to debating you during the nevada 2010 democratic primary for the us senate . . .it was good to see u at a recent henderson democrats membership meeting . . .eth

Leave Harry Reid alone. The man has not committed any crime.

Good luck on this new site, Steve. I’ll check in and read and put in a few comments once in awhile. But I gotta warn ya. My comments along with a few bucks might get you a cup of coffee at the Imperial Palace coffee shop. But only on a slow day.

One stupid observation though…. Not to brag, but I type about 90 words per minute (around there…and with not too many mistakes). I was watchin’ the end of your introduction video. It looks like you are a speed typist too.
